What Are Limiting Beliefs?
Limiting beliefs are deep-seated thoughts about yourself that prohibit you from reaching your true potential.
These falsehoods hold you within your comfort zone where it feels “safe”, and prevent you from making drastic life changes.
Your limiting beliefs play a vital role in keeping you safe but they will get in the way of your manifestations if you become too attached to them.
When you release from your limiting beliefs, you can be, do and have anything that you desire.
Why Do We Have Limiting Beliefs?
Believe it or not, limiting beliefs are not as doom and gloom as we have been led to think.
Your limiting beliefs are actually a sign of intelligence.
You see, the ego develops false truths as a kind of protective barrier.
The ego works on a very primitive level, and if we know anything about the primitive age, it’s that survival was of the utmost importance.
Change or growth of any kind was risky business that could potentially be life threatening!
Fast-forward to more modern times and the things we desire are probably not going to lead us to certain death but for the protective ego, old habits die hard.
Limiting beliefs are natural defense mechanisms put in place to keep us safe.
When trying to manifest a better life for yourself, you might feel frustrated with any counteractive thoughts or feelings that may arise.
But in order to detach from your limiting beliefs without resistance, it’s important to first accept their protective role within the mind and body.
Releasing limiting beliefs is not about getting rid of them altogether… it’s about detaching from the idea that they are truth.
When we reach an understanding of love and acceptance toward our own natural defense mechanism, we can then start retraining the subconscious mind for success.
How Do You Develop Limiting Beliefs?
So now that you know why limiting beliefs exist within the human mind, let’s examine how they came about in the first place.
Limiting beliefs can be developed at any stage in life but most commonly begin to arise during childhood.
They are built through the environmental and social factors of our ever-unfolding life experiences.
Here is an example of how a limiting belief might manifest within your reality:
Say you grew up poor…
Your subconscious would likely recognize a family that accepted poverty as part of who they are…
Environmental factors would reinforce that belief such as the neighborhood you grew up in, the clothes you wore, the food you ate and so on…
If you experienced this reality growing up, you may have adopted some of the limiting beliefs below:
“I am poor.”
“My family are poor.”
“Successful people are just rich snobs.”
And so on…
Your thoughts become your sense of identity, and in most cases, you don’t even realize it until you awaken to the understanding that you have control.
Look back on the environment that you grew up in…
The conversations you heard around money, relationships and the world in general.
Now look inward…

1.) “I have to work hard to be successful.”
The limiting belief that success only comes with hard work is probably the most common one for those seeking to unlock their manifestation abilities.
If you have this limiting belief, you probably notice yourself browsing the internet for technique after technique, over complicating your manifestation routine and always feeling like you have not quite done enough.
You may also find yourself spending long hours at work, believing that this is the only way your desires will manifest…
It’s almost as if you become tunnel visioned toward abundance coming through either a pay rise or a bonus for all of your hard work and dedication…
But the truth is that the universe works in mysterious ways.
Abundance can be attracted through a multitude of different channels and contrary to popular belief you don’t have to work your way into an early grave to get it.

2.) “I am not deserving of my desires.”
This limiting belief comes from low self-esteem often developed in childhood.
If you grew up being punished a lot, being told off or made to believe that you were always wrong, then you have probably developed this limiting belief to some degree…
But believing that you are undeserving doesn’t always stem from childhood…
It is often adopted later in life through toxic friendships and relationships too.
If feeling undeserving is a limiting belief that you suffer from, try to look back and pinpoint where this falsehood has come from.
Recognizing the source will help you to heal from it.
Take this affirmation and recite it daily…
“I am deserving of everything I desire!”
This statement is the ultimate truth and your limiting belief is a lie!
Everyone, no matter who you are or where you come from is deserving of health, wealth and happiness.
3.) “I am not smart/educated enough to be successful.”
This limiting belief is definitely one that is adopted through mass societal consciousness.
What this means is that society, in general, has adopted the false belief that you must be well educated to be successful.
Because this falsehood is held within the minds of so many, the sheer force of it creates a lot more pressure than most limiting beliefs.
On the bright side, as humanity continues to evolve, the belief that success is reserved for the well educated is actually becoming more outdated with each coming generation.
The truth is, we become educated simply by living!
I mean, think about it…
If we all were to study in the same prestigious schools, how would any new ideas ever come to light?
Understand that through diverse experiences, we as humans all hold pieces of a puzzle that will only come together when we share our wisdom.
As a broad example of this, someone who has spent their entire life in the city does not have the knowledge of someone from the country.
Understanding is as unique as our life experiences…
What’s more, many people are now finding that their prestigious college degrees are not necessarily guaranteeing success of any kind.
Then there are those with very low levels of formal education who are creating massively successful lives for themselves indeed.

4.) “I can’t be happy unless I’m successful.”
Now here’s a common trap!
The trouble with this limiting belief is that it’s a cycle that just keeps repeating itself and you will never be able to manifest your desires until you detach from it.
If you struggle with this limiting belief, here is the cycle that you will face:
You’re not happy because you’re not successful yet…
And your not successful yet because you’re not happy!
See the problem?
Remember, the Law of Attraction is all about the concept that like attracts like!
So if you feel unhappy, and you feel a lack of success, guess what?
You will be attracting just that!
Now, you may be thinking…
“Right, so I should just click my fingers and “be happy”, what an annoying piece of advice.”
And you’re right, this misconception of the Law of Attraction is rather annoying!
So let’s set the record straight…
Manifestation does not mean having to be super positive all day, every day!
We all get down from time to time.
That’s just what makes us human…
You can’t appreciate the good days without the bad ones.
But if your limiting belief is that you can’t be happy until you’re successful, you will need to start looking toward the feelings that at least make you feel a little better…
It’s a work in progress…
Anger feels better than sadness, so when you are feeling sad, reach for the feeling of anger…
When you feel anger… reach for feelings of frustration.
Slowly work your way through the emotions feeling better and better as you’re ready.
Find more time in the day to be present to what already is as opposed to looking ahead to the things which have not yet manifested.
When you feel a little better, you attract things which are a little better…
The loop opens up and suddenly you start moving forward instead of around in circles.
If feeling like you can’t be happy until you manifest the life you desire is a limiting belief holding you back, use this affirmation daily:
“I focus on my present blessings to attract more of the same”
5.) “My desires are taking too long to manifest.”
Time is merely a construct created to navigate our way through this physical experience.
Whenever you feel like your desires are taking too long to manifest, you are sending a signal of time frustration, which in turn creates even more impatience and you continue to wait even longer.
In other words…
By being frustrated at how long it’s taking to manifest, you are literally creating even more of a time barrier between you and what it is that you want.
There are two things to remember in this situation:
The first is that everything is happening in perfect timing with accordance to your own readiness.
And the second is that we are creating on a physical dimension, which means there are physical rules you need to abide by.
It’s not likely that one million dollars will fall from the sky…
Just because it hasn’t manifested yet doesn’t mean that it’s not in progress.
If you are someone who struggles with the limiting belief that it’s taking too long to manifest, try using the following affirmation:
“Everything in my life is coming together in perfect timing.”
6.) “I should feel guilty about taking a break from working toward my goals.”
Maintaining a high vibration is an important factor for the Law of Attraction.
There is nothing wrong with being dedicated and committed to what you want but if it gets to the point where you start feeling overwhelmed, you need to take a break.
Often when we are fixated on a desire manifesting, we can become very tunnel visioned.
We start to place more focus on having our desire than actually maintaining the high frequency required for successful manifestation.
Feeling guilty for indulging can be really harmful for your vibration.

Or the first one to experience a truly healthy romantic partnership?
Don’t let your family’s pain contribute to your expectations of life!
You are your own person and success is just as available to you as it is to anyone else.

8.) “Everyone will judge me if I step out of my comfort zone to achieve success.”
Fear of what others will think is the number one dream killer of all time!
In this lifetime, so many people will never chase their dreams simply because they are too afraid of what others will think.
But let’s not sugar coat things…
The truth is that success does come with its fair share of haters…
Look at the most famous and successful people in the world and the public judgment that surrounds them.
Sure it’s unfair, but do those people let the judgment and envy of others ruin their success?
They are all too busy building their empires and taking dream vacations in the Bahamas…
They find happiness within while the haters drown in their own negativity.
You can’t control peoples opinions, but you can control the way you react to it.
Just imagine getting to the age where you are sitting in the nursing home looking back on your life…
Will it even matter what risks you took?
How people treated you when you stepped out of the box?
But it will matter if you look back in regret for caring so much about the opinions of others and missing opportunities for fear of judgment.
If worrying about what others will think is something that is holding you back from reaching your full potential, try using the following affirmation:
“I reach new heights because I care about me!”
9.) “It’s evil to want more money.”
In the last few years especially, money has received a bit of a bad rap!
Particularly in the new age movement, it seems that more and more people are subscribing to the false belief that money is the root of all evil…
And that humans should just get together and build a little community where they share everything and live happily ever after the end…
While this is a lovely notion, it’s confusing and massively misses the point.
How do people actually believe that it’s more moral to trade an apple for an orange than for a piece of paper?
I mean, it’s ridiculous!
It’s not shameful to be financially abundant!
Money is just paper used with the intention of trade!
And while it’s true that not every successful person in the world is a saint, there are plenty of people out there using their money to do incredible things for the world!
Take Tony Robbins for example…
Tony has reached a stage in his career where he is now able to donate 100% of the profits from his book sales to feed those in need.
Profits from his books Money: Master The Game and Unshakable: Your Financial Freedom Playbook have gone to the organization Feeding America to provide 200 million+ meals for the homeless and less fortunate.
Not only that, but Tony has also raised money to fight against child trafficking and slavery with Operation Underground Railroad and works alongside Spring Health to help provide clean water to rural villages in India.
Imagine how much good you could do for the world when you manifest a life full of financial abundance!
Remember, money is just paper and the intention you place on it is entirely up to you.
If the desire to manifest money leaves you feeling ashamed, recite this affirmation:
“Financial abundance allows me to make the world a better place.”
10.) “If I manifest love, I might get my heart broken.”
Fear of being left with a broken heart is a limiting belief that either comes from experiencing heartbreak yourself or witnessing others go through it.
Holding onto this limiting belief will not necessarily stop you from manifesting love but it will hold you back from having a meaningful relationship that lasts the distance.
When you fear your heart being broken, you manifest more fear which almost always develops into insecurity.
For many people, insecurity in a relationship can be a huge deal breaker.
The first step to overcoming this limiting belief is to first learn to love yourself.
When you love yourself, you are able to be more open and accepting of any outcomes within a relationship, for you know that your own self-love will always cover any pain that may arise in the future.
If you experience fear of being left heartbroken in your relationship, use the following affirmation:
“My heart is always whole for I first and foremost love myself.”
11.) “You need money to make money.”
The belief that you need money to make money is an excuse that the ego makes when it doesn’t want to admit its own fear.
The underlying fear behind this limiting belief is not that you must have money to make money, but more so that it’s too hard to start from the bottom and work your way up.
The truth is that we all face different challenges regardless of whether or not we have money hiding away in the bank.
Be grateful for your struggle…
How boring would life be if you could get what you want simply by clicking your fingers?
The contrast between struggle and receiving is what light’s us up in life!
In other words…
Beginning your journey with material lack is a blessing in disguise.
The less you have, the more you stand to gain and the greater the joy and appreciation when your desires do start to manifest.
If you find yourself believing that one must have money to make money, try using the following affirmation:
“I am grateful for everything I have right now and I know the best is yet to come.”
12.) “Manifestation is too hard.”
Here is another loop-type limiting belief.
This false thought occurs whenever you are over complicating the manifestation process.
If you think manifestation is too hard you’ve either spent too long trying technique after technique and completely exhausting yourself…
or you have spent too long reading over complicated material on how to manifest.
The problem with this belief is that like attracts like…
So if you think manifestation is too hard… it is!
By being frustrated about your manifestations, you attract more frustration around your manifestations…
You can see how this trap can suck people in right?
The truth is that manifestation doesn’t need to be hard!
Set your intention, use a few visualization techniques but then, let it go!
Refocus your attention.
Don’t let your desires control your entire day, get out there and live life!
Catch up on errands, spend time doing things that lift your vibration and most importantly, be present!
That’s all you really need to do.
If you subconsciously feel that manifestation is too hard, use the following affirmation:
“I manifest all my desires with ease.”
13.) “I’m too depressed to be positive.”
There is a common misconception among Law of Attraction communities that you must maintain a positive outlook at all times in order to manifest.
I mean come on, let’s be realistic!
We all experience a whole range of different emotions, in fact, you wouldn’t even recognize happiness if you couldn’t compare it to sadness.
Sadness allows us to recognize what we don’t want in order to identify what it is that we do want…
Feeling negative emotion from time to time is just human nature and not an issue for manifestation.
What is an issue however is where you hold your point of focus.
The word depression is usually associated with the act of holding onto your sadness for long periods of time.
If this is you… it’s time to start shifting.
You don’t need to shift your awareness to “feeling happy”
just shift it anywhere!
Maybe you go and walk the dog, make your bed or watch a TV show.
What actions can you take to shift your attention away from your depression, even if it’s only for a moment?
Every time you shift your focus, you raise your vibration and strengthen your own control over the subconscious mind.
Work through this limiting belief by reciting the following affirmation:
“I am moving closer toward health, wealth and happiness each and every day.”
14.) “If I fully believe in myself, the pain will be greater if I fail.”
This limiting belief is directly linked to fear.
You see, the ego fears pain and therefore keeps you within your comfort zone.
Many people don’t want to have faith that their desires will manifest because they are too afraid of potential failure.
The thing is that when you have developed this limiting belief, you always emit a slight vibration that says…
“My desires may not manifest.”
This subconscious thought in turn actually makes you more likely to fail.
It’s important to know that the universe has your back!
If you believe in yourself, source will follow suit.
If fear of failure is holding you back from manifesting your desires, use the following affirmation:
“I believe I can succeed.”
15.) “I’m too old to live the life of my dreams.”
Society, in general, tends to subscribe to the false belief that as you get older you should “slow down and rest your weary bones”.
The truth is that age is no obstacle to the Law of Attraction!
No matter what your age is, success of any kind is always available to you.
Vera Wang, for example, didn’t enter the fashion industry until the age of 40.
Samual L. Jackson got his first big Hollywood break at the age of 43.
And Colonel Sanders didn’t franchise Kentucky Fried Chicken until he was 62!
If your age is holding you back from living your best life, try using this affirmation:
“I am at the perfect age to achieve greatness!”
16.) “Life isn’t supposed to be easy.”
Although it is true that life is full of ups and downs, the belief that life is supposed to be hard is simply a big fat lie!
When you believe that life is supposed to be a challenge, you invite more challenges into your reality.
The trick to achieving a happy life is actually quite simple when you know how.
All you need to do is decide what you want out of life, channel feelings of success, and continue taking each day as it comes finding more and more things to be joyful about.
When you can reach this stage of ultimate alignment, you won’t have to try so hard… things will just start flowing for you…
Opportunities will present themselves everywhere you go and life will continue to flow just as you expect it to.
Don’t be so hard on yourself and don’t take things too seriously.
We are all just here having fun with this earth experience.
Play! Enjoy it! And most of all, look after yourself!

17.) “Change is scary.”
Fear of change can be extremely debilitating and sadly, this limiting belief blocks many people from achieving their true potential.
Remember, the ego operates in a very primitive manner.
It believes that change can be potentially life-threatening and therefore prefers to keep you within the confines of your comfort zone.
The problem with this is that even the most positive changes can trigger fear.
How much would your life change if you suddenly became a millionaire?
Or if you met that special someone to take you to new heights of love and happiness?
Sure that sounds amazing but at the same time, many people subconsciously fear the physical reality of a dramatic change like this manifesting in their comfortable existence.
Being afraid of good things to come acts as a form of resistance against your desires manifesting.
To release yourself from this resistance, use the following affirmation:
“I am excited and accepting of all changes coming forth within my life.”
To sum this up…
Limiting beliefs will do nothing but slow you down…
In fact, it’s easy for these unwanted thought patterns to completely sabotage your manifestation efforts altogether.
They also lower your vibration, decrease mood, keep you unmotivated and literally put you off attracting what you want!
If you have any of these limiting beliefs it’s okay and there’s no need to panic!
You did not intentionally manifest this type of thinking, it was more than likely from environmental circumstances than anything else.
And the great news is that you can actually reverse the effects!
You see for years limiting beliefs got the best of me, which is why it took so long to manifest anything positive at all!
I felt like the more awareness I had on my thoughts, the more I realized I didn’t have a very healthy way of thinking…
So I did some research and come across a few solutions.
